   Food Drive - Sumter Humane Society
Food Drive Friday & Saturday, March 19 - 20, 2010


We mostly need any kind of PEDIGREE or PURINA food... dog or cat, dry or canned. Drop by the shelter between 11:00AM and 4:00PM. If you can't come out to the shelter, you can drop your donation off in Americus at Cafe Campesino, Draw Products, Ginger Starlin State Farm Insurance Agency, or those wishing to help can purchase the food at Farmer's Seed & Feed, and someone from the Humane Society will pick up the supplies.

Sumter Humane Society Casino Night 2010

The totals are in for the Sumter Humane Society Casino Night! We made just under $22,000! We needed it, too! This will really help us keep the doors open and save more puppies and kitties. In 2009 we had 563 adoptions, reunions and transfers to rescues! Our highest number ever, ever, ever!!!!!

Grand Opening Sumter Humane Society New Shelter Ribbon Cutting

On June 27, 2009 at 10:45 the new Sumter Humane Society was crowded with dozens of people taking tours and waiting for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. As people toured the two new dog kennels and two cat rooms, most of the animals basked in the attention. see more photos....

New location, New building
on Industrial Boulevard, the Sumter Humane Society is offering naming opportunities for the new facilities.

  • Adult Dog Kennel Room: $35,000
  • Puppy Kennel: $25,000
  • Cat Room: $25,000
  • Reception: $25,000
  • Surgery/Medical Clinic: $15,000
  • Cat Habitat: $12,000
  • Kitchen: $8,000
  • TLC Ward/Isolation: $7,500
  • Grooming Room #1: $7,000

Cages, individual kennels and equipment are also available for naming. For costs, questions or further information, call the shelter at 924-0268 or Michelle Andrews at 928-0944.

 
Low Cost Spay/Neuter
Our program is designed to help stop the over population by providing low-cost spay or neutering of dogs and cats in Sumter County. Our low-cost program is for low income people who are on some type of government assistance or who are considered low income. Must show last year’s tax return or proof of current government assistance. If you are 65 or older you qualify for up to two animals.

Spay or neuter your pets
That’s what animal lovers do!!!

Cost to low income person is $35 for cats and $45 for dogs. We pay the rest. We recommend, but do not include the vaccinations for the animals. Such as Rabies and DHLPP for dogs and FVRCP for cats.

From Bumphead - Go past the Sumter County School Complex. Turn right onto Industrial Blvd in front of Sumter County High North. We are at 108 Industrial Blvd.

From Rucker, North Lee Street or Mayo - From town, go right down Southerfield to Industrial Blvd. (Just past Mattie's Kitchen) Turn left onto Industrial. We are the third building on your left.

From HWY 49 - Turn onto the North Americus Bypass. Go past South Georgia Technical College. Turn left onto Southerfield and then right onto Industrial Blvd. We are the third building on your left.

From HWY 19 - Turn onto the North Americus Bypass. Turn right on Southerfield and then right onto Industrial Blvd. We are the third building on your left.
 
Did You Know...
GA State Law requires Rabies shot once per year for all dogs and cats.
TO NEGLECT YOUR ANIMAL IS A CRIME!!

EXAMPLES OF NEGLECT ARE:
*Lack of sufficient food and water
*Dirty or contaminated food or water
*Animal left in the sun with no possibility of shade
*Exposure to extreme heat, cold, or rain
*Leaving a collar on a dog that cuts into its neck
*Severe weight loss of an animal due to internal parasites left untreated
*Untreated injury, mange mites, ticks or fleas
*Unsanitary living conditions
*Animal tethered to a chain too short for the animal to move.
*Abandonment of an animal (leaving the animal to survive on its own or leaving it for someone else to care for without notification).
*Abusing or mistreating the animal in any way is cruelty and is punishable by law.
*It is considered a FELONY to fight or train a dog for fighting.

Fee Includes: Spay/Neuter, FVCRP Vaccination, Rabies Shot, Microchip, Worming, Feline Leukemia and FIV test (shots for these are not included)

A Heartworm test is available for any dog over 6 months old for an additional $25.00
